NEW YORK, NY – January 6, 2025—SolMicroGrid, an Energy-as-a-Service microgrid company focused on the commercial and industrial (“C&I”) market, announced plans to deploy a solar-enabled microgrid solution that will provide renewable energy and cost savings to a Wendy’s restaurant operated by Dependable Foods in Wasco, California.
Through a combination of a PV solar array and an on-site battery energy storage system, all controlled by an intelligent energy management system, the microgrid will provide clean energy at a significant discount to grid power. SolMicroGrid provides these benefits on an energy-as-a-service basis, which means that the system is owned and maintained by SolMicroGrid who will provide green power and other energy services to Dependable Foods.
Ron Dhillon, Wendy’s franchisee and CEO of Dependable Foods said, “Partnering with SolMicroGrid to install a microgrid system at our restaurant is a game-changer for us. This energy-as-a-service agreement allows us to reduce energy costs and improve sustainability—without any upfront expenses. We’re proud to lead the way in adopting innovative energy solutions that benefit our business and the environment. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Dependable Foods on this groundbreaking renewable energy installation,” said Kirk Edelman, CEO of SolMicroGrid, “This project represents a major step forward in advancing clean energy solutions for the quick service restaurant industry. By integrating sustainable, distributed energy resources at the local level, we’re helping Wendy’s reduce energy costs at its restaurants. This is just the beginning of what’s possible as we work together to redefine how businesses efficiently power their facilities.”
The Wendy’s Company is committed to reducing their Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 47%, and Scope 3 emissions from franchisees by 55% per restaurant by 2030. Initiatives like on-site solar can be helpful to Wendy’s and their franchisees in mitigating their climate impact. More information and progress toward Wendy’s climate and energy goals can be found in their most recent Corporate Responsibility report.
SolMicroGrid is positioning itself for rapid growth as it scales its operations to meet the increasing demand for sustainable, distributed energy solutions. With an expanding customer base in California and the addition of experienced leaders driving operations and business development, the company is well-equipped to continue its growth, expand its operating fleet and deliver innovative microgrid systems across a range of industries.
