Job Summary
SolMicroGrid is seeking a proactive and highly organized Project Development Analyst to support the full lifecycle of distributed energy projects—from origination through construction and into commercial operation. This role provides broad exposure to all facets of microgrid development, including permitting, interconnection, utility programs, EPC coordination, and operational handoff.
At SolMicroGrid, the Project Development function is often viewed as the “quarterback” of the team—leading cross-functional efforts, aligning internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring each project advances smoothly through key milestones. This is an in-office position Monday through Thursday in SolMicroGrid’s midtown New York office, with flexible remote work on Fridays.
Key Responsibilities
- Utility & Regulatory Engagement
Conduct market Evaluate local utility tariff structures, demand response programs, and community choice aggregation (CCA) offerings to optimize project structures and customer savings
Support and track interconnection processes across diverse jurisdictions, including application submittals, utility coordination, and queue management
Facilitate utility communication and documentation needed to secure Permission to Operate (PTO)
- Permitting & Jurisdictional Approvals
- Identify permitting requirements from relevant Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including planning, building, fire, and electrical departments
- Manage the timely preparation and submission of permit applications in coordination with internal and external partners
- Monitor permitting timelines and maintain visibility on potential bottlenecks or delays
- EPC Execution & Commercial Operations
- Collaborate with EPC partners on scheduling, compliance, and documentation related to construction activities
- Understand and support contract provisions related to performance testing, liquidated damages, and milestone achievement
- Track critical construction phases including mechanical completion, substantial completion, and commissioning; coordinate activities required to achieve PTO and commercial operation
- Cross-Functional & Strategic Coordination
- Interface with internal engineering and design teams to ensure project layouts meet interconnection and permitting constraints
- Support the project finance team by providing key development inputs and tracking project readiness for investment milestones
- Coordinate with business development and legal colleagues to facilitate customer engagement, site control, and contractual execution
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, Environmental Science, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus
- 1-3 years of experience in project development, utility coordination, or related fields
- Familiarity with interconnection processes, permitting requirements, and distributed energy technologies (solar PV, BESS, backup gensets)
- Understanding of EPC project execution including performance guarantees, LDs, and operational milestones
- Knowledge of utility rate structures, demand response, and CCA programs is highly beneficial
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple parallel timelines
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Exposure to engineering and/or project finance functions is a plus
